Winnipeg, MB - Construction is underway on a state-of-the art facility
for IDERS, a Winnipeg-based electronics research, development and manufacturing
firm, at the University of Manitobas Smartpark. Since 1992, IDERS
has designed electronic products and systems currently in use around the
world and right here at home in Winnipeg.
IDERS has quietly become a local and international success by designing
and manufacturing systems which protect buried natural gas lines, keep
trains safely rolling, direct cell phone traffic, fly planes without pilots,
pay for dinner with debit cards and most recently, assist engineers in
designing and building better bridges.
Partners Bradley Brown and David Fletcher are proud of their companys
accomplishments and credit IDERS model partnership between industry,
government and academia as one of the keys to its long-standing success.
As a young company, some of IDERS greatest achievements occurred
in our early facilities located in Fort Garry. Locating to the Smartpark
later this year will be a homecoming of sorts, explains Bradley
Brown, president of IDERS. Our continued success can be credited
in no small part to the strength of our people our developers are
almost exclusively University of Manitoba Electronic and Computer Engineering
graduates.
Despite fierce global competition in a time of uncertainty, innovative
Canadian firms continue to demonstrate their ability to compete and excel,
says Reg Alcock, MP for Winnipeg-South. I am pleased federal programs
have been enabling tools contributing to IDERS growth and achievements
and look forward to welcoming them back to my riding.
IDERS has a history of collaboration with the University of Manitoba
and support of University initiatives and research activities. IDERS has
contributed over $135,000 through the course of the past 6 years,
states Doug Thomson, Faculty of Engineering Associate Dean, Research.
In turn, IDERS benefits from technology transfer as a result of
University research, plus having access to graduates from our programs
to propel their growth.
IDERS is expecting to move in to its new building in December 2003.
